Taliban The U.S. invaded Afghanistan in 2001 to topple what government?
The answer is: Taliban

The Taliban is a Sunni Islamist movement, headed by Mullah Mohammed Omar, that governed Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, when its leaders were removed from power by Northern Alliance and NATO forces. In the Taliban's extremely strict and "anti-modern" ideology, Sharia law was interpreted to ban a wide variety of activities hitherto lawful in Afghanistan.

In March 2001, the Taliban ordered the demolition of two statues of Buddhas (image) carved into cliffsides at Bamiyan, one 38 metres (125 ft) tall and built in CE 507, the other 53 metres (174 ft) tall and built in CE 554. The act was condemned by UNESCO and many countries around the world.
